About Northside Church

Our Vision:

Our vision is to take deliberate steps of action to address the needs of our community in such a way that our neighbours and our society are affected and transformed with the love of Jesus!

Our desire is to equip and engage each member of our fellowship in the work God has called them to fulfil!

Our History:

In 1962, some believers set out to establish a “new witness” in the Vanderhoof area with a focus on providing a church home for evangelical Mennonite believers. Northside mainly emerged from immigrating Mennonite believers from Oregon and the local Somerfelder Mennonite community. Even though we have strong Mennonite roots, Northside is no longer a distinctive Mennonite community. We were strongly impacted in the 1970’s and 80’s by the establishment of a church school ministry and the renewing work of the Holy Spirit in the wider body of Christ at that time. Northside has always been defined by our commitment to developing and helping strong Christian family units.
Dedicated to missions from our beginnings, we have supported existing churches around the world as God brings us into relationship with them; we have become significantly involved in humanitarian aid, evangelism, and discipleship in the last twenty years. At present, we feel that God is positioning us for new and challenging opportunities, even as He has done in the past.

Our Vision for Outreach Missions:

Our vision for outreach missions is based on Jesus’ command to “Go into all the world…,” in Matthew 28:19-20. This Scripture mandates us with responsibility to share the Gospel in our home community as well as in other parts of the world as the Holy Spirit directs us. Members of the Northside Church have been sent for varying terms to countries in Europe, Africa, Asia, South America, the Caribbean, and the Middle East. However, we have felt a specific calling to be a support and encouragement to indigenous, national church leaders with whom the Lord has given us long-term relationship; many of these leaders do not have regular ties with or financial support from North American or European mission agencies.

The basis for our church’s assignment is found in Titus 1:5 and Revelation 3:2; these scriptures are foundational to our calling to the concept of “Strengthening that which remains” and furthering evangelism that is already in existence. To that end, we regularly send representatives from Northside to spend time with church leaders in their environment where we partner with and encourage them in their work of outreach, evangelism, discipleship, and humanitarian efforts.

Northside Christian School:

Northside Christian School is a significant ministry of the Northside Church. Serving Vanderhoof since 1977, Northside Christian School is designed to assist parents who are training their children to love and obey God, develop a Christian worldview, and prepare academically for a life serving God. The purpose for this school’s existence is related directly to God’s Word in which parents are commanded to be responsible for the teaching and training of their children (Deut. 6:3-9).  Our mission is to assist parents in the fulfilment of this commandment.

The teachers and staff bring their love for God into the school each day. Their dedication to service and application of their skills, gifts, and interests are a blessing to the Northside school community.

Northside Christian School is a Group 1 Independent School operating under the British Columbia Independent School Act with government certified teachers and government approved curriculum. The school is a member of both the Society of Christian Schools British Columbia (SCSBC), and the Federation of Independent School Associations (FISA) and is enriched by meaningful interaction with these organizations.
